[NEWS] Nogizaka46 in Theater of “Joshiraku” Manga
Nogizaka46 are hitting the stage to star in a play based on the popular Joshiraku Manga series which had also spawned an animated series.
Japanese girl group Nogizaka46 are set to star in Joshiraku a series created by writer Kouji Kumeta and illustrator Yasu. The story follows the lives of five young rakugo performers, a Japanese style of one-man show where a performer recites a story often featuring a large array of characters, whose casting from the pop idol group was subjected to an open vote only weeks ago.
The roles of the girls; Marii Buratei, Kigurumi Haroukitei, Tetora Bouhatei, Gankyou Kurubiyutei, and Kukuru Anrakutei, were triple-casted from Nogizaka46 in order to accommodate as much of the ensemble as possible. Joshiraku is set to run at the AiiA Theater Tokyo from June 18 – 28.
Kukuru Ankuratei: Asuka Saito, Kana Nakata, and Rena Yamazaki
Gankyo Kurubiyutei: Kotoko Sasaki, Ami Nojou, and Miona Hori
Marii Buratei: Misa Eto, Yuri Saito, and Sayuri Matsumura
Tetora Bohatei: Marika Ito, Kazumi Takayama, and Himeka Nakamoto
Kigurumi Harokitei: Sayuri Inoue, Hinako Kitano, and Minami Hoshino
Joshiraku [じょしらく] is a 2009–2013 Japanese comedy manga series written by Kōji Kumeta and illustrated by Yasu, telling the everyday lives of five young female rakugo comedians. It was serialised in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine and compiled in six volumes. An anime adaptation by J.C.Staff aired in Japan between July and September 2012, with an original video animation episode released in February 2013.
Nogizaka46 [乃木坂46], created by producer Yasushi Akimoto, is famously known as AKB48’s official rivals. Nogizaka46 made their debut in 2012 releasing a total of 8 singles since then with their second single Oide Shampoo hitting the top of the weekly Oricon Charts. In recent history the group is most famously known for singing Tsuki no Ookisa [月の大きさ] the opening theme for Naruto: Shippuuden. As of June 2014 Nogizaka46 consists of 34 regular members and 9 understudies (kenkyusei).
